We (100% locally owned tour company) are dedicated to showcasing the incredible beauty and diversity of Africa to every visitor. We believe in creating sustainable and responsible tours that not only offer unforgettable experiences but also positively impact the communities and environments we visit.

Through our local project Soma na Mwanga, we support local students staying in an environment without electricity with solar bags, helping them study at night and build a brighter future. At the moment, we are working with Ngabobo Primary School in the Maasai community of West Kilimanjaro.

To bring this vision to life, we work with some of East Africa’s most experienced and knowledgeable local guides who share wildlife, culture, and stories in a meaningful way. We also select eco-friendly accommodations that support conservation and local communities.

Safari ASAP put together an amazing Safari, with Serengeti, Ngorongoro and Tarangire national parks, Arusha, Moshi, great lodges, phantastic safari vehicles, perfectly equipped , and last but not least very experienced, fast but careful drivers who were trained rangers at the same time, and great story tellers! The sheer number of animals we saw was fantastic, but it was the close encounters that made the safari especially unforgettable—giraffes, elephants and impalas in their natural habitat were simply breathtaking. We couldn’t have asked for a better safari experience with Safari ASAP. From the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater to Tarangire, every day was filled with incredible wildlife — we saw the Big Five, flamingos, magnificent baobab trees and so much more. But the absolute highlight was witnessing the Great Wildebeest Migration crossing the Mara River. Our guides found us a fantastic viewing spot, and when the herd came thundering across, we could actually feel the ground shake as thousands of wildebeest galloped right past us!  Verified Professional, fun, safe and exciting tour, we would do it again!
We didn't know anything about Safari ASAP when we booked the tour but we wanted to give it a try because they had interesting tour offers. Thomas was always very responsive and courteous whenever we had a question regarding the adjudtments for our tour. Our five tour days were very different and each day had it's own high lights. We did one day of local coffee experience and cooking, two days of Safari, one day of community work in Mto wa Mbu and one day of visiting some tribes. A big advantage is for sure the company's structure. You can really feel with Safari ASAP that they are working with their partners close and in detail. For different subjects and activities, different guides were organised. In this way, you have experts knowing what they are talking about. A special thanks to all the guides included in our trip, especially to our driver Hussein who is as professional, kind and knowledgeable about the wild life as you can wish for. We are 100% happy with the outcome and are glad to have supported a small scale company (it felt more sustainable than with one of the big players out there which try to get customers with cheap prices). The best time for an African safari is when wildlife is abundant and easy to spot. The ideal season depends on the country you plan to visit, but with East Africa offering different climates, you can enjoy an incredible safari almost any time of the year by choosing the right destination.

To witness the Great Migration, visit Tanzania’s Northern Circuit, especially the Serengeti and Ngorongoro. Late December to early March is one of the best times to see wildebeest and zebra calving, attracting large numbers of predators and creating exceptional wildlife viewing opportunities. From June to October, Tanzania’s dry season offers excellent game viewing across the country, as animals gather around water sources. It’s also a great time to explore the Southern Parks or combine your safari with Kenya’s Maasai Mara to follow the Great Migration and river crossing.

Every year, around 1.5 million wildebeest, 300,000 zebras, and thousands of antelope migrate in a spectacular circular journey between Tanzania’s Serengeti and Kenya’s Maasai Mara in search of fresh grazing and water. WHAT TO BRING/WEAR ON AN AFRICAN SAFARI

Packing for an African safari is different from most trips. Dusty roads mean you’ll get dirtier than expected, while early morning game drives can be surprisingly chilly, so pack layers. If you’re flying between camps, baggage is usually limited to 10–15 kg (20–33 lbs), making a small soft duffel bag the best choice.

If you’re staying in a city before or after your safari, you can often leave larger luggage at your hotel or our office. Essentials include binoculars, a hat, sunglasses, and a camera with spare batteries. Many lodges offer laundry services, and clothes dry quickly in the African sun, so you can pack light for a comfortable 7–10 day safari.

Arusha National Park, near Kilimanjaro International Airport, offers savannah wildlife and rare black-and-white Colobus monkeys. Tarangire National Park is famous for its stunning baobab landscapes and large elephant herds. Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of Africa’s top wildlife sanctuaries and a stronghold for the rare black rhinoceros. Lake Manyara National Park is a compact, scenic park known for its rich wildlife and tree-climbing lions.

A hot-air balloon ride over the Serengeti is an incredible and unforgettable experience. Launch points vary within the park, depending on where the wildlife migration is expected to be.

A balloon safari over the Serengeti plains in Tanzania offers a truly magnificent perspective of the landscape. Since visitors typically spend many hours on game drives in the Serengeti, a balloon flight provides a refreshing change of pace and a completely different way to experience the wilderness.

As the Serengeti is a national park, walking safaris and off-road driving are strictly prohibited. This means that activity options are more limited compared to private game reserves, making the balloon safari one of the most unique highlights of the visit.

There are several balloon safari operators in the Serengeti, and flights depart from different locations within the park, often depending on the movement of the Great Migration. A Serengeti balloon safari must be booked in advance or at least one day prior. Payment is usually possible by card at lodges or at the Serengeti information centers while you are in the park.

How safe is Tanzania?

Your safety is our priority. We would never recommend a destination, region, or property that we believe poses a security risk. We stay up to date with travel advisories and information provided by government authorities and tourism associations to ensure our recommendations remain safe and reliable. As in many destinations around the world, petty crime can occur, so we encourage travelers to take sensible precautions. Avoid walking alone in isolated areas or on deserted beaches at night, refrain from displaying valuable items, and dress respectfully, particularly when visiting local communities.

Vaccinations and Health in Tanzania

To comply with the International Health Regulations (2005) and protect public health, Tanzania has the following yellow fever vaccination requirements: A valid Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate is required for travelers arriving from, or transiting for 12 hours or more through, countries where yellow fever is endemic. The yellow fever vaccine must be administered at least 10 days before arrival in Tanzania. A single dose provides lifelong protection against the disease. Travelers who are unable to receive the vaccine for medical reasons must present an official medical exemption certificate issued by an authorized medical officer upon arrival. Individuals exempt from vaccination due to medical reasons or age (under 1 year or over 60 years) should seek medical attention if they experience symptoms such as fever, headache, muscle aches, or joint pain while in Tanzania. Eligible travelers who fail to present a valid Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate may be denied entry, vaccinated upon arrival, or placed under public health observation for up to 10 days, in accordance with Tanzanian public health regulations. Travelers arriving directly from countries without a risk of yellow fever transmission, and who have not transited through a yellow fever-risk country for 12 hours or more, are not required to present a Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate upon arrival.

Tented Camps and Accommodation on Safari

One of the best ways to experience the African bush is by staying in a tented camp. These camps cater to a wide range of budgets and comfort levels, while still offering an authentic safari experience. Most tented camps include running water, en-suite bathroom facilities, and electricity supplied by solar power or generators. In mobile camps, lighting is often provided by hurricane lamps, adding to the traditional safari atmosphere. Although the accommodation is canvas-based, there is no need for concern. Many guests enjoy falling asleep to the natural sounds of the African wilderness at night. Camps are supported by 24-hour security, and in areas where wildlife may pass through, staff remain highly alert and attentive to ensure guest safety.

Clothing To Wear On Safari

While on safari, we recommend dressing for comfort and practicality. Light, breathable, and lightweight clothing such as shorts and shirts are ideal. Neutral or light colors are preferred, and clothing with multiple pockets can be useful for carrying small items like cameras or accessories. For women, a supportive sports bra is recommended for comfort during game drives. Comfortable footwear is also important, especially if you may be moving around or standing on vehicle seats for better wildlife viewing. In the evenings, smart casual clothing is suitable, along with a warm jumper or fleece, as temperatures can drop at night and early morning. If you have sensitive skin, take care when wearing shorts, as sun exposure can be strong during game drives. A hat and sunscreen are essential. On Zanzibar and other coastal islands, modest dress is expected. In places such as Stone Town, women are advised to wear clothing that covers the knees and avoid off-the-shoulder tops. Men are also encouraged to wear shirts or tops that cover the shoulders when in public areas.

Currency in Tanzania

The US dollar is the most widely accepted and convenient convertible currency in most African countries. Currency exchange bureaus are available in all major towns and tourist areas. Banks and some hotels also offer currency exchange services, but the exchange rates are usually less favorable compared to official bureaus. For the best value, it is recommended to use authorized exchange offices where possible.

People, Culture and Customs in Tanzania

Tanzanians are generally very friendly, and greetings are an important part of daily life. People will often ask about your health and well-being, and even learning a few basic Swahili words can lead to warm and positive interactions. English is widely spoken in major cities and towns, while local tribal languages are more commonly used in rural areas. Tanzanian society is generally modest, and people tend to dress smartly in urban areas. Visitors are encouraged to dress respectfully as well. Very short skirts, bikini tops, and cut-off shorts are discouraged outside beach areas, and nude or topless bathing is not permitted by law. The country is culturally diverse, with Islam, Christianity, and Hinduism being the main religions, alongside traditional beliefs, especially in rural communities and coastal regions influenced by early Asian settlers. Visitors can support this approach by respecting local customs, minimizing environmental impact, disposing of waste properly, and following national park regulations designed to protect both wildlife and travelers.

Food And Water On Safari

When traveling in Africa, it is recommended to use bottled water at all times, including when brushing your teeth. Most lodges and camps provide either bottled water or boiled and filtered water for guest use. Safari vehicles are usually stocked with drinking water, but it is advisable to check each morning before departure that you have enough supplies for the day. Dehydration can occur easily in warm climates, so it is important to drink plenty of water—at least two liters per day is recommended to stay properly hydrated. Most lodges, camps, and hotels offer a mix of international (Western-style) meals along with local dishes. Trying traditional cuisine is highly encouraged, as it offers a great way to experience local culture, for example, banana stew is a popular and delicious regional dish.

Going to the loo on Safari

If you need the restroom while on safari, toilet facilities (WCs) are available at designated stops within most game reserves and parks. However, during game drives, facilities may not always be nearby. In such cases, your guide will stop in a safe and suitable area, check the surroundings for wildlife, and ensure privacy while you take a short break in nature. This is a normal part of the safari experience, and guides are trained to handle it discreetly and safely.

Temperature in Tanzania

The equatorial sun in Africa can be extremely intense, and daytime temperatures may become very high. The first few days of your safari or beach holiday can feel especially hot, so it is important to take precautions to avoid heat exhaustion or heat stroke. We recommend drinking plenty of fluids throughout your journey, whether on safari or by the coast, to stay properly hydrated. It is also essential to protect yourself from the sun by using sunscreen, wearing lightweight long-sleeved clothing, and carrying a good sun hat. Pay special attention to areas that are more prone to sunburn, such as the backs of the legs, forearms, neck, and head, and ensure they are well covered or regularly protected with sunblock.

Do you Need Travel Insurance On Safari?

To travel to Tanzania, you are required to have a valid travel insurance policy covering the entire duration of your holiday. We strongly recommend that you review your policy carefully to ensure it provides adequate coverage for your needs, paying particular attention to protection for medical expenses, emergencies, and the amount of cash you may be carrying during your trip.

How Much Does A Safari Cost?

This is perhaps the most difficult question of all, as a safari holiday is not inexpensive. As a general guideline, you should budget from around US$2,400 per person for an average safari combined with a short beach extension. From there, costs can increase depending on the level of accommodation, length of stay, travel season, and chosen activities.

Booking and Payments?

A deposit is required at the time of booking in order to confirm your safari. Please note that we will only secure and confirm the reservation once payment has been received on behalf of the principal. Credit and debit card payments are accepted; however, please be aware that a 4% surcharge per booking applies to all card transactions.
